One of mine and Dr. Nebraska's favorite fake holidays. I'm not ashamed to admit that in the past year I've become somewhat of a coffee snob. When Eric and I first started dating and I had visited him in Lincoln, one of the first places he took me to was one of his favorite coffee houses, Cultiva Coffee. Lincoln actually has a wonderful coffee culture, and I was even sent home with a bag of my own grinds.
So that pretty much started it... when I stopped buying k-cups at the grocery store and purchased my own re-fillable ones (they're better for the environment anyway!)
Fast forward to today: Eric is here in NY and we have acquired 3 different ways of extracting coffee. We purchase beans and not grinds from this incredible subscription service called Driftaway Coffee, which sends us different coffees from around the world, and each week we look forward to a little surprise in the mailbox. It's something we get excited about.
How each person does their coffee is different. For us, this makes sense... making our own at home.
Some love the experience of walking in to a local coffee chain, trying whichever seasonal flavor is popular at the moment. One thing is for certain, coffee is a culture and I wanted to take a moment to recognize it!
Speaking of local and national chains, many are recognizing National Coffee Day today as well with some cool deals, these are the ones I've heard about (check with your store to verify):
- Starbucks is loading a grande or larger coffee to your app, and on Thursday (October 1st) you can earn triple stars.
- With a purchase from Dunkin’ Donuts, you can get a free medium hot or iced coffee.
- At Krispy Kreme, you can get a free coffee and if you have a membership you can get a free donut.
- Get a regular hot or iced coffee at Jack In The Box when ordering on their app. And with the 7-Eleven app, you can get any size coffee for just a dollar.
