Lizzo teamed up with the Fab Five of Queer Eye for her latest visual.
On Friday (June 26), the pop star premiered a colorful, rainbow-heavy lyric visual for her anthem “Soulmate.” The 32-year-old musician and Queer Eye stars Jonathan Van Ness, Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, Tan France, and Bobby Berk all receive the cartoon treatment in the self-love affirming animation.
“True love ain't something you can buy yourself/ True love finally happens when you by yourself,” Lizzo preaches in the upbeat, ab-lib-filled production that appears on her Grammy Award-winning third studio album, Cuz I Love You.
Describing the meaning behind the uplifting record in an interview, Lizzo revealed, “I have a relationship with loneliness that is not very healthy, so I’ve been going to therapy to work on it. And I don’t mean loneliness in the ‘Oh, I don’t got a man’ type of loneliness, I mean it more on the depressive side, like an actual manic emotion that I struggle with.”
Of its origins, she said: “One day, I was like, ‘I need a song to remind me that I’m not lonely and to describe the type of person I want to be.’”
Although “Soulmate” arrives over a year after the release of Cuz I Love You, Lizzo revealed it was actually meant to be the second single from the record. “I LOVE SOULMATE! That was supposed to be the 2nd single believe it or not…. but Good As Hell started climbing the streaming charts,” she tweeted at the time. “Guess we gotta wait for the world to fall in love with it.”
