$200 million Unclaimed In Florida Prepaid College Program

Parents of kids paying for the Florida Prepaid Program may be eligible for some money back. According to Florida’s Prepaid College Tuition Program, over 30,000 families have a combined $200 million in unclaimed money. Tens of thousands of families have credits averaging $4,700 per family.

The good news doesn't stop there. In addition to receiving refunds, families can also transfer the balance to the accounts of other children or put the money into another savings plan to help pay for books, technology, and housing for college students. Furthermore, the program is waiving the application fee, usually$50, for anyone who submits an application for a new prepaid plan between now and Oct. 31.

Program spokeswoman Shannon Colavecchio encourages people that believe they may have a credit to review their account with Florida Prepaid.
