This story shook me to the bone when I read it on Mirror UK... I was so confused about my own feelings and thoughts around it that I had to come on here and share it with you for your thoughts.
This woman, who's been named as just 'Xiao Ju', is just 27 years old and in the past 6 years has had 17 abortions. She's been with the same man the entire time, but doesn't use contraceptive methods. She's had the abortions because she doesn't plan to get married and doesn't have the means to raise a child.
When she went in for her last procedure her doctor, Zhao Qin, who is the head of gynaecology at Shiyan Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital in China, told her that "Her uterus was also badly scarred" after so many previous abortions. She also tried telling her that "If you don't have to have this abortion, then keep this baby, because it may be very, very difficult for you to get pregnant again."
The young woman wanted to go through with the process anyway and it seems she has now been left infertile.
I don't even know what to say...
First of all, I am pro-choice. I believe it's a woman's decision to do with her body what she determines to be right, and to lead her life in the way she seems fit. However, 17 abortions just cause she's option out of using birth control? I can't wrap my head around it. There are SO many birth control options out there. Why opt for abortions as your means of birth control? It seems cruel to me not just to the fetus but to her own body.
I also feel guilty for even commenting about it cause, as a true believer that women can do what they want with their bodies I shouldn't be bothered at all with this story... but I am and I don't even understand why...
